THERE’S SOMEONE INSIDE YOUR HOUSE. The new film on Netflix is a slasher film worth watching.

As soon as the candy corn and pumpkins hit the store shelves, spooky season officially begins in the hearts of many. With the talk of trick or treating, carving pumpkins and making everything pumpkin spice, scary movie night becomes a perfect weekend plan. This weekend, maybe the Netflix original movie “There’s Someone Inside Your House” is a perfect film to add to the list to watch.

Starting with a suspenseful sequence paying homage to movies like “Scream” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” the movie does not take long to start slashing the teens at Osborne High. The plot starts with a seemingly revenge plot against the high school football team, but then the killer seems to forget why he or she started killing. The main characters are a group of kids outside the popular clique at their small Nebraska high school. The new kid with a past, Makani Young (Sydney Park) joins the mean and spiteful Alex (Asiha Cooper), the rich kid Dale (Zach Sandford) and trans kid who just wants to be left alone, Darby (Jess LaTourette). They yearn to know why their classmates are being murdered, but there is a lot going on in their social life that keeps getting in the way of their investigation. The spookiest part of the whole murder spree is that the killer wears a mask resembling the victim as he slashes their throats and stabs them multiple time. Plus, the killer quickly just starts murdering people with secrets, and everyone at Osborne High School seems to be full of secrets revolving around drugs, racism, attempted murder and more.

Based on the 2017 book by Stephanie Perkins of the same name,There’s Someone Inside Your House” is a traditional slasher film. There are some pretty cringe worthy scenes including the slicing of the achilles tendon which brought back nightmares of the original “Pet Sematary.” The TV-MA rating is equivalent to a R rating if it was on the big screen, so it is not okay to watch this with younger kids or anyone who scares easily. Don’t expect to be scared off the sofa, but it is everything a good slasher film should be. The group of kids do their best to help the cops solve the crime and save their classmates, with a few dying here and there. Add it to your list for a Halloween fright night, or watch it this weekend to start the spooky season.
