Coach Michael Storms celebrates his 100th win as a Wildkat with a win over Kingwood Park.

When the buzzer sounded at the end of basketball game signaling the 40-37 victory over Kingwood Park, the team and fans were cheering for more than a pivotal district win.

The win was Coach Michael Storms 100th as a Wildkat.  The team was proud of their coach for his milestone.

“I was excited to be there for Coach Storm’s milestone,” junior Bay Hutchins said. “I was even more excited that we scored a big district win.”

This is Storms’s seventh year as the leader of the Wildkats. He has always worked to build camaraderie in his team.

“I always find ways to allow the players to have ownership in the program,” Storms said. “I find ways to involve the players in decision making.”

Storms has advice for coaches who are just starting their careers.

“Coach with your personality and not someone else’s,” he said.  “Don’t let the negative talk about you get you down.”

The milestone win was important to Storms and the players. They will always remember this moment they were able to share.

“With me being the only senior, I think it’s a cool ‘trophy’ to keep as a last year accomplishment,” senior Coleman Davis said.

Storms knows that wins are important, but he hopes his players learn more than just basketball everyday.

“My goal is for each basketball player to learn lessons from the daily experiences in basketball, in order to mold them into outstanding young men,” Storms said. “ I want them to realize that they represent themselves, their family, their basketball family, their school and their community with their actions and performance on and off the court.”
