Weight room, long practices and protein. Wrestlers stay hard at work to ensure their success. The district meet is the first obstacle to the journey to state and where wrestlers will prove themselves as the best of the best, and this is where some of their seasons end.

Wrestlers have followed their mantra of ‘refuse to lose’ and following through. Members of the boys and girls teams will compete at regional this week for their chance to make it to state.

“Willis did really well at district this year,” sophomore Brian Racus said. “We placed first place in the whole district and our coaches got coach of the year.”

Even though the team placed first, some people were not able to go to regionals even though they fought hard.

“I was so close to going to regionals this year,” senior Marco De La Rosa said. “I was one match away from getting that spot to go to regionals, but I got beat out.”

The people that did go have a plan to keep going on down the road to the next stage of the competition.

“I got past district but I still have to keep moving forward,” junior Pablo Sanchez said. ” I still have to fight hard at regionals so I can qualify to go to state.”
