Freshmen hoopers keep trophy home after hosting tournament
Dribble. Pass. Shoot. Tournament Champs.
The freshman basketball team kept the trophy at home when they went undefeated throughout the Woodforest Classic tournament that they hosted Dec. 9-11.
“Winning our own tournament at our school feels great,” freshman Chandler Beasley said. “We went undefeated the whole tournament, I feel like we really made a statement with this tournament win.”
The freshman basketball team are looking to keep the same pace once district starts. They will be hosting their first district game against College Park.
“The tournament was a lot of fun. It made our record better,” freshman Cori Hatchet said. “We did great during the tournament but the most important thing to us is district. We want to go undefeated during district and I think that we can with this team.”
New coaching all around basketball has had a great impact on the teams this year. Every team has a better record than they did last year.
“Coach Worten understands basketball at another level,” freshman Terri Lawrence said. “He can watch what the other team is doing at onces and he knows how to counter them. Coach Worten being our coach has helped us a lot this year and he is a huge reason that we went undefeated in the tournament.”
As the freshman basketball team put their new trophy in the trophy case, they understand that this is great but they are not satisfied.
“We still have minor things that we need to improve on, but once we figure them out we will be unstoppable,” Beasley said.
