The new season has become the diamond of the season as it surpasses Season one and takes its place at the top of the charts. The show, produced by Shonda Rhimes, is based on a book series by Julian Quinn and follows the Bridgerton siblings through their quest to find love in the early 1800s in London.
This season focuses on the eldest Bridgerton, Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey, as he sets on a quest to find the viscountess. His story line is filled with twists and turns, mistakes and moments of failure, but watchers are hooked as they watch Anthony discover who he is. He becomes fixated on the diamond of the season, Edwina Sharma played by Charithra Chandran, but he must earn the affection of Edwina’s older sister, Kate played by Simone Ashley .
Season two also offers glimpses into the life of Daphne Bridgerton played by Phoebe Dynevor as she becomes the dutchess.
Lovers of the first season were nervous for the second season as everyone’s favorite Duke, Simon, was not returning as actor Regé-Jean Page decided to step down from the show in order to avoid being stuck in the role. But do not fear, as Anthony Bridgerton steals the show with his moments of vulnerability and passion.
The show is rated Mature, and students should watch it with caution as it graphic content and sexual content. Some watchers were wary of season two because of the themes in season one, but the new season is much milder.
If one wants a quick escape from reality, and enjoys watching a man struggle to figure out the mind of a young lady, then Bridgerton is the show to watch. The show still contains all of the drama of the first season, but offers a completely new storyline. So, grab your tea and biscuits, put on your best pajamas and escape into the world of lavishness, scandal and the quest for love.
