The joys of being a Swiftie
Fan or not, everyone knows the lyrics to at least one of Taylor Swift’s songs. They are played at every party, school dance, on the radio, and almost every girl has “I Knew you were Trouble” on her playlist.
Taylor Swift is notorious for her over exaggerated love songs. She has always found a way to blow us away with every single song she writes. Her fans all grew up with Swift’s songs, and as her fans matured so did Taylor Swift’s music.
Her first albums Taylor Swift, Fearless, Speak Now and Red are geared towards mostly teenage girls as they talk about young heartbreak and love stories. Being a teenager consists of listening to “You Belong with Me” and “Today was a Fairytale” alone in your bedroom and dreaming about your perfect future boyfriend; because “when you’re 15 somebody tells you they love you, you’re gonna believe them.” Songs like these are upbeat and happy but still can get you in your feelings.
Taylor Swift’s music makes you feel like you’re not alone. The way she writes her songs are descriptive and as if she poured every emotion, heart and soul, into it. No matter the circumstance, she has a song for everyone. Her newer albums Folklore and Evermore don’t give off the normal T-Swift aesthetic that her songs usually bring. They give off a more mature vibe and the lyrics are more meaningful.
Songs like “Cardigan” and “The 1” are lyrical masterpieces. They describe in detail the situations of the heartbreak and use metaphors like “I felt like I was an old cardigan under someone’s bed, you put me on and said I was your favorite” to emphasize the emotions going into the lyrics. All of her songs on these albums are unique and different, and show just how much Taylor Swift’s music has evolved.
No matter the age or situation, fan or not, Taylor Swift has a song. She doesn’t have 11 grammys and didn’t win artist of the decade for nothing.
