The Last Of Us brings video game world to life
Twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed, Joel (Pedro Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie (Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey as they both must travel the U.S. and depend on each other for survival. The major enemy is a fungus famously known as cordyceps, that are known to infect a host taking complete control over the host’s motor functions. The fungus cordyceps became mutated due to global warming in the show, infecting millions of crops in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In the story, Jakarta, Indonesia is also known for having the largest flour mill in the world, while the cordyceps infected their crops without knowing. Billions around the world eat flour everyday and would not even realize they were infected until it was too late. Joel and his daughter, Sarah, survive the initial outbreak trying to flee out of Austin, Texas where they lived.
Years later the show begins to show how far the fungus has grown in only 20 years as Joel and Ellie fight their way through all of the oppressive civilizations that are ruthless to outsiders. As they kept pushing through all the trouble in their way, they develop a bond that grows in each episode.
The Last Of Us stars many familiar faces we all love, Pascal, Ramsey and Nick Offerman. HBO Max has really outdone itself producing such a nostalgic game to many players and creating a real life action show. It is an amazing start of a show, giving you all the humor and grief the need to be obsessed. Although some things are right out of the game, the directors manage to adapt and continue with what they can do. The Last Of Us showing time is every Sunday at 9:00 PM CST.
