CTE clubs and organizations present refreshments, games, fun, entertainment, Santa, barn animals and games for WISD elementary students to come and have a great time and get in the holiday spirit.
Christmas in the Barn will be held in the CTE building on Friday from 4:30-6 pm. This event is being held for elementary students to come out and enjoy the Christmas spirit. Many clubs are participating and contributing in a way.
“For Health Science we are doing Christmas ornaments,” Katrina King health science teacher said. “The reason this is important is it allows the school and the community to come together to celebrate the season. HOSA is my student-led organization that will be doing the Christmas ornaments.”
The event is fun for all involved and showcases all the areas of study in the CTE building.
“There will be Santa there, a petting zoo, and all the other student organizations hosting an event,” King said. “I believe our student organizations get to show who we are and a positive image of our student body to our community. I think it also showcases how many organizations and clubs students can get involved with during high school. I love watching my students engage with the younger students who come to our booth. We all get to be part of the celebration of Christ, who came to serve others. That is what we do in Health Science, we are always taking care of others with a servant’s heart.”
Not only is HOSA contributing, but so is the fashion design team and the ag department. These clubs contribute to making sure the event can be as fun as possible.
“The Fashion Design Lab group will be running a snowman toss game,” Darlene Parsons, family and consumer science teacher, said. “Large cans painted to look like snowmen will be stacked. Participants will toss bean bags to try to knock them over. If they do, the treat is snowman poop.”
One of the groups involved in the event is FFA. Their members will be showcasing their talents and projects in several different ways.
“The Ag Department provides the barn facility,” agriculture teacher Amanda Traylor. “The FFA will be hosting the petting zoo, roping dummies and possibly corn hole.”
Christmas in the Barn is a great opportunity for the school to give back to the community. In the season of giving, the event is perfect for students to give back to the community that often supports them.
“We look at it as a time to showcase our wonderful facilities, programs and students,” marketing teacher Cheryl Gehovak said. “We came back last year after two years off, and we had a wonderful time and great turnout. The Spanish Club will face paint and Mrs. Menges with her Snowflake cakes is helping out this year. We appreciate the support of organizations and businesses in the community in helping make the event happen. We also appreciate Mr. King and Mr. Utecht allowing us this opportunity to help and present CTE to the community.WISD Education Foundation and Kroger have helped a lot with donations of activities, treats, and supplies.”
