Students riding into the parking lot, parking in their individual personalized spots, ready to start their day. This is how the first day of school would go if students got the opportunity to paint their assigned parking spots.
Throughout people’s childhood, they would see certain characters in T.V. shows painting parking spots or hear about how people were ready to paint their parking spots. Recently when students reached high school, they realized they did not have the ability to paint their $75 parking spot. Students should be allowed to paint their assigned parking spots.
Some might just write class of 24’/25’ and some will go all out on the designs. This is how the ability to paint parking spots will aid self-expression. When given the opportunity to paint, students normally waste no time. They paint what is approved by administration and express their creativity and their school pride. After they paint, school spirit is created with a sense of pride and ownership which not only helps boost school pride but also makes the parking lot look refreshed and creative.
It also gives students responsibilities to prepare for adulthood. Students already have the responsibility of paying for their vehicle insurance and/or gas and the responsibility to pay for paint and possibly have built in times for students to paint can help with time management preparation. When students paint, they need to bring their own supplies and plan out their design to get approved. These all can help students get an idea of how they need their own supplies for college, how they can manage their time in college, and pay for their necessities.
The ability to paint parking spots can also help with the minor issue of people either parking in other peoples spots or parking without a pass. To park on campus, paying $75 dollars on campus is required. If students were required to paint their parking spot, it could be easier to tell when someone is parking on the bare concrete. Students who would not want to pay extra to paint their spot could have a spot that says it is claimed and students who pay $20 extra could paint their spots and the money raised can be used for senior class activities. It would be a easy, lucrative way to raise money for the seniors.
Administration may believe it will cost more in the long run, but it may help cut down on cost. If students were responsible for maintaining their spot the need to hire people to repaint the parking lines could be less frequent. They can purchase their own supplies and be responsible for their spot as long as it gets approved by administration.
