Four years of high school sounds like an eternity at first, but for several seniors; the past 4 years have gone by in a flash. With the end of the first semester approaching, many deadlines and important dates for seniors are getting closer. The second semester is jam-packed with all sorts of important events such as prom, graduation, etc.
“So far, we have our prom set for May 4th (Woodlands Resort), and graduation is May 29th at the Cynthia Woods Pavilion,” principal Eric King said. “We are still trying to pencil in dates for the week of senior activities. Announcements will be coming shortly.”
If you are a senior in need of help with planning your next steps or finding scholarships, Mrs.Neumann, the college and careers counselor, is a great person to contact. You can reach her through her email, [email protected] or in room B205.
“At this point, most seniors should be finished with their college applications,” Neumann said. “Seniors need to turn their focus at this point to scholarships. The College/Career Center webpage has a multitude of scholarship opportunities. I always advise seniors to pay close attention to the ones that say ‘local’ because they are going against less students.”
To ensure that high school graduation goes as smoothly as possible, make sure that you have completed any and all required courses or applications.
“Be sure that your dues are paid up for the year and that you have completed all requirements (flashing lights, CPR, you have submitted your FAFSA application, and your attendance is in good standing) to be a candidate to graduate in 2024,” King said.
The process for preparing for high school graduation and getting ready for college can be very tedious and stressful at this time of year for many seniors. Keep in mind, though, that the school year isn’t over just yet; and there are still many fun events coming up in the spring such as the senior picnic, the senior walk, and of course, the prom.
“I am excited to experience senior activities I’ve been looking forward to all of high school,” senior Jessie Gonzales said. “It’s rewarding in a way.”
