Students around the school were surveyed about who they would vote for in the upcoming presidential election. After data was collected it has shown some surprising results.
While many students showed a greater interest in third-party candidates than any other generation, a large number of students are choosing not to vote at all in the upcoming election.
There are several reasons why many students are preferring third-party candidates. Gen Z as a whole has shown significantly more interest in issues such as climate change, universal healthcare and unemployment, many of which are big focuses for the Green Party and independent candidates. Students feel that their empathy for their fellow man is more represented in these candidates. Another reason is that many students have a negative opinion of both major parties. This could be because social media helps to spread news and expose corrupt politicians on both sides.
One of the most alarming facts revealed by this survey is the number of students choosing not to vote in the election. Many students feel disenfranchised because most politicians are too old and do not represent them and their views. It’s as though nobody votes for someone anymore, they only vote against someone. Students feel that no matter who they vote for, they are underrepresented and their opinions aren’t valued.
Even though it may feel that one vote doesn’t matter and won’t change anything, it is important to vote. Voting was not always a right for everyone in America, but now that it is, all Americans should take the time to make their opinions heard, everyone’s voice matters. Voting can cause change and can even decide where the government puts money collected by voters’ tax dollars.
Voting is important, and a crucial part of the United States government system. Even if it doesn’t feel like it, every vote matters and will push toward a future that the people chose. It is the right and responsibility of the people to vote for the future and keep bad people out of positions of power.
