Now that musical season is over, many of the Dramakats are turning their focus to the UIL one-act play. This year, the dramakats are doing a one-act of “Amadeus;” a play that portrays a fictional account of the lives of famous composers Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri.
Most people are familiar with the name Mozart and probably a few of his pieces, but this play is not entirely focused on the composer himself. This play has a much deeper meaning to it aside from its portrayal of Mozart’s life.
“Amadeus is about consequences of real life actions and about bettering oneself,” said senior Aiden Hamilton. “It’s about how to live with love and admiration instead of disdain.”
Many of the Dramakats are really looking forward to putting this show on stage, as they have been working on it now for many months; enduring several after-school and Saturday rehearsals.
“I am really excited to be a part of this year’s one act, and I am so grateful that I’m getting the opportunity to share a stage with such talented actors,” junior Avery Ruiz said. “At the moment, the show feels like it’s about to take off. The cast is off book and we’re starting to get the hang of things.”
The Dramakats will perform their one-act in competition for the first time on February 29th at zone, to potentially advance to district.
“I am a little nervous, because sometimes the judges don’t view the plays the way they are intended,” Hamilton said. “Overall though, I’m really confident in this one-act.”
Students and community members can come out and support the play on February 26th at 7pm, where they will be having a public performance of Amadeus.
“This is my first year doing the one-act even though I’m a senior, and I’m so happy that I’ve gotten to be a part of it,” senior Allison Carroll said. “I think the cast is really committed this year to advancing, and it would be great if people would come out and support us in a few weeks when we have our public performance.”
