Tennis, A constant competition of not just the body but the mind.
Spring Tennis has begun, bringing about new teams, rules, and so much more. The season is in full swing, with tournaments nearly every week with the goal to win gold. Spring marks a different attitude in the program, with a shift in tournament layout and rules.
“Our spring season is different from the fall, because in the fall you are playing as a team. Everything you do is for a team, including playoffs,” senior Brayden Leinweber said. “But in the spring you are playing for yourself or you and your partner. Playoffs in the spring are all solo or whoever you are playing with.”
Teamwork and determination are constantly reminded to tennis team members, practicing hard to develop and fine-tune skills needed to win, With constant afterschool practices promoting the refinement of play present in the program. This continuous practice helps enhance the team’s performance and builds bonds that allow the team to be a family.
“A regular tennis practice typically includes warm-up, stroke and footwork drills, strategy discussion, match play, and a cool down,” senior Pedro Cantarero said. “Players focus on technique, footwork, strategy, and apply skills in practice matches under the guidance of a coach.”
As with any sport, there will be many ups and downs; however, leadership and experience can go a long way. There are multiple players with many years of playing; these players rise above and help lead the younger generations, having many wise words and advice for this season.
“Enjoy the road ahead of you, don’t get hung up on your past,” senior Brad Lottinger said.
