School may have just started, but the class of 2025 will be walking across the stage before they know it. It is time for them to plan for the future and for other Wildkats to get a jump start on their own college decisions.
A college and career fair, appropriately named ‘Wildkats Are Going Places,’ is scheduled for Monday, August 26 in the CTE building. Starting at 6 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m, members of colleges, tech schools and the military will be available to help students and parents plan for the future.
“Sam Houston, Texas State, Texas Tech, the Air Force, and the Army are just some of the many colleges and programs that are attending. While we couldn’t get the main campus of Texas A&M, there will be many of their system schools like Texarkana and the Corps of Cadets,” College and Career Counselor Tricia Neumann said. “There will be a variety of trade schools, career fairs, law enforcement, branches of military, and flight programs there as well.”
Students going will have a variety of benefits and things to take away from the event.

“One of the best benefits of going is the fact that people are able to get a one stop shop to talk to several colleges about their programs. It saves people the long trip to places like Austin or Dallas,” Neumann said. “You are able to look into the places you are already considering, but also at the ones you may not of known of as well.” The event is a wonderful opportunity to look at the different options that are available without the long trip out of town, saving time and money.
Many students are eager to scope out the different programs that are out there, too see all of the options.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the different college options that are coming, the ones that I’m already interested in and the ones that I may not know about yet,” junior Rachel Stephenson said.
With the wide variety of schools that are coming, everyone who is coming has at least one thing that they can learn and get from the event. Those who plan on attending should sign up at bit.ly/WillisCollegeCareerFair24 . Signing up it not a necessity, but will help the organizers know how many people to anticipate.
It’s not just students who can benefit from going, everyone can get something from it.
“We are highly encouraging all students to bring their parents and their siblings, last year we had around 500 people attend, all full of parents and siblings along with students. It’s a perfect opportunity for everyone to start thinking about the future,” Neumann said.
