What sounds more exciting than a movie about storm-chaser hobbyists creating an invention that can monitor tornadoes on a whole new level? I’ll tell you: a sequel of that movie coming out nearly 20 years later.
A movie that stole the hearts of many this summer was the new “Twister” sequel, “Twisters.” People were highly anticipating the release of this movie, as the original one was released back in 1996 and beloved by many. The new movie featured familiar faces such as Glen Powell, the heartthrob of the movie; Kiernan Shipka, Daisy Edgar Jones, and more.
I would say that I was very pleased with this movie and would highly recommend it to anybody who loved the original. The movie still revolves around weather geeks on a mission to save the day, which I appreciate them bringing back from the 1996 version.
My favorite aspect of the movie would have to be Glen Powell’s overall role as the typical “hot guy.” If there’s one part of this movie that you have to watch, it would have to be his dramatic entrance. It was a nice comical touch to an already intriguing movie.
Though I think they did a particularly good job honoring the original movie, I was a little disappointed that there wasn’t really a romantic storyline included in this one. One of the most iconic parts of the original movie was the romantic plot line, so I was fully expecting this movie to have some sort of love story. Although it seemed to hint at one at times, a love story definitely wasn’t the focus, which is understandable; just disappointing. However, they did keep the weather-saving invention storyline alive; which I was glad to see.
I was also a little surprised by the considerable amount of deaths in this movie, particularly in the beginning. Really only the antagonist and the main character’s father die in the first one, but there were far more deaths in the new one. I don’t think that really takes away from the quality of the movie, it just seemed a bit random.
Although I do have some conflicting opinions, I’d still say that overall this movie was the highlight of movie theaters this summer. I think it did a great job of capturing elements of the original movie while still making it a more modern story, without taking away from the original story.
