Roars across the stands are accompanied by students running across the field, showing off their school spirit and getting hype for their sports season. The 2024 Meet the Kats was the biggest one yet on Wednesday, with the stands filled and the field crowded.
As the Willis population keeps on growing, each event grows bigger that makes this year’s Meet the Kats better then the previous one. However, this year’s Meet the Kats is special for different reasons.
“This year’s meet the kats felt more special than previous years for how it was my first year being a drum major compared to being with the band and playing along with them,” senior Zisel Braza said. “It definitely is a different experience!”
For others, this event was seen as a closing for their senior year as it comes around full circle from their freshman year.
This year’s Meet the Kats was special compared to the previous years because it was my last Meet the Kats,” senior Prema Dabi said. “It also went really well, and looking back, I realized how hardworking our student body is and I’m glad we have opportunities like these so that these kids can gain more recognition.”
This event is a great opportunity for sports and the band to showcase their talent and get hype for their upcoming sport and competition season.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to travel and compete with my teammates,” junior Benjamin Wendt said.
Even though some sports start later in the fall, the start of Friday Night Lights begins the excitement for the cheerleaders, football team, color guard and the band.
“I’m excited about Friday Night Lights and all the band competitions that are going to take place such as UIL and BOA,” Dabi said. “Although all the sweating and running around gets tiring, events like those make everything worth it and help everyone become closer to each other. It’s a bonding experience and I want to be able to be a part of it all this year.”
