The self expression of seniors getting to paint their parking spots are new to the school, will it become a tradition or one time thing? This new tradition of seniors getting to paint their parking spaces has started this year at Willis High School, this is a special way for seniors to show their school spirit but also express their personality as well.
Connecting parking spots to a students personality sounds hard, but in the midst of all the inspo and ideas students have, they can always go back and really connect to what has impacted them as an individual.
“I got the inspo for my parking spot from one of my favorite tv shows when I was younger, Victorious,” senior Dayna Ross said. “ I’ve always felt connected to this style because of how much I love music and how it has always impacted my life in a positive aspect.”
Getting to have the seniors show off who they are as well as boost school spirit is a win here. Although this tradition has not always been around, students were ready to brave the Texas heat to get creative and have a memorable parking spot for senior year.
“I loved painting my parking spot. I was one of the original people who went to Mr. King about the spots and am beyond excited we were able to decorate and boost school spirit,” senior Molly McCollum said. “My parking spot was very creative and almost ‘abstract.’ I had no template so I loved just doing the random. It was extremely hot, and I was even out there till 3 a.m. some nights, but I had a blast and it was extremely worth it.”
After getting to be creative and have fun painting their parking spot at school this year, many seniors who participated in this new tradition, would definitely recommend having the experience to any upcoming seniors thinking about participating.
“I totally recommend painting your parking spot,” senior Amelia Hardin said. “It’s a way to show off your personality and you can be creative.”
It may seem silly to have the capability to show off personality and style through a parking spot, but it is much more that that. It gives students the ability show off who they are.
“I painted my parking spot the Spongebob 12 years later, quote,” senior Brooke Samples said. “I’ve always loved Spongebob even when I was very young. Senior year seemed to be very serious and I am not exactly the most serious person, I typically enjoy things that make me laugh. So I thought that if I chose a seemingly unserious spot to paint it would feel like I’m showing more of my personality to others. Spongebob’s goofy personality has always had an effect on mine and the show always makes me laugh. I also just wanted something that I would see and think of my childhood because now I am graduating high school in May and that can be scary.
With all this excitement around seniors now joining in on the tradition of painted parking spots, many have the same question now that new construction for the school is starting soon, will other senior classes be able to partithis as well?
“I hope we are able to continue painted parking spots for seniors. I think it is a fun, creative way for students to showcase their individuality,” Assistant Principal Mrs. Breed said.”I’m not sure if we will do it again after new construction starts on our campus, but my fingers are crossed.”
