The sweet scent of vanilla and chocolate ice cream fills the choir room as you walk in after a long Friday at school. Friendly wildkat choir members are happy to welcome you and are excited to kick off the year with this fun event of socializing and sweet treats.
Last Friday, August 23rd, the wildkat choir held their annual ice cream social in the choir room to welcome all the new kids to the program this year and welcome back returning choir members. It was an evening of ice cream, meeting new people, and sharing information about the wildkat choir program.
“The ice cream social is an awesome event to get to know other people in choir,” junior Christina Jersey said. “We relax and socialize while listening to music and eating ice cream! Overall it is just an amazing experience that marks the start of a wonderful year!”
The annual ice cream social ultimately serves as a welcoming event to new members of the choir program, and reunites returning members.
“The ice cream social allows newcomers to get to know each other better and become more comfortable around everyone in the program,” senior Ava Foster said. “I also had fun messing with my friends.”
Additionally, the choir program has another tradition of signing a big sign that has ‘Our House’ written in the middle of it. People sign their names around it, and it stands as a representation of the friendly environment and community of the wildkat choir program.
“I love going to the ice cream social because it’s everyone’s first time meeting each other in the program,” senior Jasmyna Joyner said. “It’s basically our biggest tradition where everyone gets the chance to sign the “our house” sign; which officially welcomes them to our program.”
The wildkat choir is always happy to welcome new members; and truly show their appreciation for each other at this event.
“The ice cream social was on the smaller side this year, but we had some fun moments during it like karaoke and some dancing,” Joyner said.
