Books are always better than the movies. The movie “It Ends With Us” is a prime example of an unnecessary film that didn’t need to come to life.
The story was originally written by author Colleen Hoover and reached its prime popularity whenever it started trending on Tiktok around the world that reached the hearts of people to start reading again. This story had famous faces throughout such as Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni and Brandon Skelaner.
In the book everything is intertwined to get the themes across about domestic abuse and the meaning of a real friendship, and the aspects were not as portrayed as they could have been in the film. With this movie being counted as longer than most, the film makers could have incorporated more valuable details instead of dragging certain parts on. Missing out on the valuable information such as the Ellen letters and especially the “Boston Magnet” scene was such a fundamental part of the storyline and with them not even incorporating it into the movie is ridiculous. If the director couldn’t have fit such drastic details into a over two-hour long movie. Maybe it should have been a series instead of quickly putting together a film for a profit.
The plot line of the story was really cute and does maintain the main core values that the book was trying to portray. The friendship between Lily and Alyssa is a different kind of love that added on the story and brought back some sentimental value into the film, but they didn’t have enough scenes with her either. The connection between them both was so unbreakable in the book and showed the true meaning of a best friend and that was just thrown aside in the movie. The characters that actually deserved the screen time got cut and the lesser important scenes with Ryle and Lily were the ones kept in. If the director actually wanted a perfect film then they should have picked the most valuable content of the story and utilized those details to make it the film perfect.
Although this movie wasn’t was what those who loved the book needed, it still had an amazing soundtrack with having songs by Lana Del Rey and Cigarettes After Sex which were phenomenal choices. This movie also had a lasting impact on women who face domestic abuse and toxic love which overall brought awareness to the issue. Overall opinion is that the movie focused on the wrong details, and its focus should be on how the book portrayed the characters and not some quick film to get the audience talking about “It Ends With Us” again.
