Cosmetology is hosting a salon day on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M.
Salon day is a great opportunity for the students to grow as cosmetologists and get experience under their belts. Each student must have a certain number of hours of salon practice before they sit for their state board test.
“Salon day benefits the cosmetology students because we get to practice doing hair on people,” junior Sadie Smith said.
The students enjoy different parts of the program. They learn so many skills in the class.
“My favorite part of cosmetology is curling hair,” junior Nicole Sumner said.
Salon days allow students to get a touch of the real cosmetology industry. Customers can be friends and family members of the students. Community members are also encouraged to book an appointment to experience the Wildkat Salon first hand.
“I feel like salon days provide a great experience for us,” junior Juliette Montoya said. “Our clients are great practice for us.”
This Wildkat salon day offers a variety of services for clients. The prices are at a very discounted price compared to local salons.
“Services we provide are blowouts, manicures, pedicures, facials, and hair washes,” junior Hailey Swank said. “Pedicures and manicures are between $10-15 and just a wash is $5.”
Salon days are good in many different ways, for students, the salon and clients.
“We do salon days because we get to experience how we will be with our clients when we start working,” junior Alondra Ortiz said. “We get to learn time management and can raise money for our salon while getting to interact with the community.”
As students, the goal is to continue to grow and learn, which is exactly why salon days are beneficial.
“I love salon days because we get to learn something new each time and improve our skills,” junior Makenzi Brigoli said.
