The songs have been sung. The dances are over, and the guitar riffs left echos in the PAC. The Willis High School Talent Show over, but there is a long-lasting memory for all the people who were there as contestants or spectators.
The show, held Monday Oct. 7, was an amazing experience for people who may of been hesitant to show their talent. It put people in the spotlight, in front of an audience full of peers and parents and on the stage to perform their best. The first place award went to seniors Cameron Dugan and Dayna Ross.
“I definitely gained confidence in my singing voice,” Dugan said. “Before I wasn’t very sure that I sounded good, but seeing how everyone loved my performance really made me feel good about myself.”
There was an amazing turnout to the event, with both family members and friends showing up to show support to the performers. Second place went senior Zisel Braza for her ukulele and song performance. A dancing duo of brothers, junior Javier Herbert and sophomore Eric Herbert danced to Beggin’ by Madcon.
“My favorite part of the show was that everyone was able to come out and show what they can achieve, and the audience was very respectful it was amazing,” Javier said. “I’m proud of everyone who was there and helped out, even the people who did the sound and lights were great, not just the performers.”
This event was one of the first talent shows in years, and it was sponsored by the senior class. It left many people wanting to continue this and make it a tradition.
“There are so many kids on campus who have a talent, even if it is something small, but they never get to show it off,” Javier said. “The Talent Show is something that allows you to do that, so it should definitely be repeated in future years, it’s something that everyone and anyone could enjoy!”
