With the spooky season coming to a close and Christmas still two months out, the most underrated holiday of all is approaching. While having a not-so-great backstory, Thanksgiving is great for several reasons, it is a time for thankfulness, family, cooler weather and good food.
The story that everyone is told about Thanksgiving is that Native Americans from the Wampanoag tribe joined the englishmen for a feast to celebrate a successful harvest, but the availability of information has led to several Thanksgiving claims being disproven, and people are finding it difficult to be thankful for any of it. While this is a valid feeling to have, it is also okay to stray from tradition and redefine what Thanksgiving is about.
The holiday season can be hard for people for several reasons; the sun sets earlier, families change, the financial tension from buying gifts. Everything starts to speed up during the holidays, and it can be extremely taxing. What makes Thanksgiving so special is that it’s a day to spend with loved ones and some classic comfort food, it’s a day hit pause and cherish all of the people who make life beautiful. Not everyone has the greatest relationship with their families, but Thanksgiving can be about chosen family too and several have started a “Friendsgiving” tradition.
Overall, Thanksgiving is a day to celebrate everything that life has given, and to be thankful for all of the people who make it all worth it. The holiday shouldn’t be overlooked or seen as filler before Christmas, it should be celebrated with enthusiasm and out of love for others.
