Earlier this month the Cosmetology 2 students had the opportunity to go and participate at the Image Expo in Houston. This event had a bunch of learning opportunities and information for the students to have the opportunity to learn and grow in their skills. It helped prepare students for their careers after high school and how to continue learning.
These students were given a perspective of what to expect outside of the classroom and be involved in different experiences to help prepare them.
“It showed us kinda what to expect in the real world,” senior Lanie Courtney said. “It was a bunch of different vendors and a very fun experience that I was able to learn a lot from.”
This year’s Image Expo themes and focuses had a wide range of opportunities, from different classes to tools that were available to help the students.
“All the tools and supplies we could buy and the shopping we could do was really fun to look at,” senior Clarice Ivey said. “The different classes we could go to learn about different things in depth that maybe our teacher doesn’t go over and the more advanced things we were able to do.”
The students who attended had the chance to attend classes and learn things they haven’t yet, this provided them with new ways to grow and challenge themselves.
“I really think it helped us grow and helped us see the new materials and ways to do things” senior Marisol Gonzalez said.
As these students prepare to continue their cosmetology career, this expo was able to help the students for what comes after they get their license.
“There were a bunch of people helping us with things to do after we got our license,” senior Kimberly Mendez said. “We were told we could take classes to continue our education and I thought that was really helpful.”
The workshops and learning opportunities that were offered at the expo gave the students a chance to learn things outside of the curriculum and be better prepared for higher things.
“There were many free classes that taught me things I have never heard of,” senior Molly McCollum said. “In the program we learn what we need to know for our test so being able to learn these outside techniques and have specialized booths set up by professionals were greatly beneficial. There was booths for cutting, coloring techniques, teasing, business planning and so so much more.”
