In honor of breast cancer awareness month, the girls volleyball team came together to show their love and support for this month by hosting fundraisers as well as games for breast cancer awareness. This gave them the ability to donate and support those who are fighting or have fought breast cancer.
The team participated in a variety of activities and events throughout October to support and spread the importance of breast cancer awareness.
“We did a car wash last week on the 20th and our pink out night,” junior Sara Sledge said. “We were also selling our pink out shirts at the game.”
Everything that the team did in October gave them the opportunity to honor the families on the team who were battling breast cancer.
“Last season, we had two mothers who were actively going through treatment,” senior Danica Sunquist said. “To witness the fear and sorrow from their families was truly eye opening. I was definitely happy to be able to support and honor their journeys.”
With everything going on, the importance of supporting those who are battling breast cancer never left the team as they did their fundraisers.
“We did the pink out car wash,” junior Havyn Shiflet said. “Which was able to help us raise money to support breast cancer and spread awareness.”
Continuing everything the team does in October each year is never short of important in order to support the team’s loved one’s.
“It’s important to let them know that we will always be here to show our support. Another reason is it’s just to show how we can all come together and fight for one cause and that’s to also show our support and love.”
Greeney believes that everything the volleyball team does shows support and how the team can come together to show their love for the team’s loved ones who are fighting and have fought.
“I think it is important to continue this tradition because we have people’s love ones that have fought cancer or are still fighting cancer,” she said.
