School security is the number one priority for schools in today’s time. There are so many different dangers that could occur with strangers, weapons and more that used to not be as much as a problem. Identification of the people entering the school is a must-have process that every school needs. Even though the school has always had this process, they have decided to take even tougher precautions to make staff, students and parents feel as safe as possible. In a video distributed last week, Principal Eric King explains the new protocol.
The new process to enter Willis High School or sign a student out to leave early will start by the parent or guardian needing to stand in front of a camera and showing identification such as a driver’s license. This camera is outside of the building right by the door and the adult will not even be able to enter the building until the front office knows who they are. Adults are also asked to immediately close the door after entering and make sure no one comes behind them after they enter.
In order for schools and students to be able to come to school and learn material, they have to be able to feel safe and able to walk to halls and be in the classroom safely without the fear of something happening. Willis ISD a understands this fully and wants to further extend safety measures to protect their school and make the school a very successful place for learning now and in the future.
With these new safety measures, the school can feel safe and ready to learn when they come to school everyday without fear or anything else to distract them. The staff and King has done a great job this year on protecting the school and ensuring that all students can all be in a good environment on a daily basis.
