With final season right around the corner, students everywhere are rushing to get the final bits of information from each of their classes and getting ready to test. Final season is the last stressful push before Christmas break, and many students are prepared and ready.
Finals are stressful for any student no matter what grade, but it doesn’t have to be. There are many ways for students to prepare for their finals in order to get a good score, including having good time management not procrastinating, and staying focused and positive help students to stay on task.
“Active engagement with the material such as a review, or outline of the units, or the resources provided is a great study habit,” English 3 teacher Kelly Hardin said. “Simply reading and highlighting doesn’t activate your brain as much as teaching someone else the material, rewriting it in your own words, generating questions or thoughts, and writing them in the margin of your notes. This will provide a stronger memory connection so the recall is easier.”
Many students have the question of when to study. With so much material covered over the semester, it can seem daunting to start when there isn’t a clear idea of what to start with.
“It would be a good idea for students to start studying as soon as possible,” English 2 teacher Taylor Harper said. “Students can split their studying into more manageable chunks when they have more time to study.”
With the many classes that require constant focus, it is very easy for students to begin to feel burnt out and stressed, but there are ways to manage it. Taking a deep breath and getting plenty of sleep allow the body to reset and face each day with a healthier mindset.
“Finals and the end of a semester can be stressful, but if you approach each day with positive intention and purposeful presence, you will successfully make it through,” Hardin said. “It is easy to get caught up in the work and let it drag your mood down, but just stepping back and taking a break for a bit helps tremendously.”
