The rules for final exams have changed for this semester, and students disagree with this new movement.
No matter how hard students work in class, they must take their finals.
“At the beginning of the year, we were told different rules than what is in place now,” freshman Anna Balboa said. “It is unfair because even if you have an A in class, you still have to take it along with the failing people.”
Many students reminisce on the old rules where they could leave early if they were exempt.
“The new rules are unfair, and I think they should only apply to lowerclassmen or the rules should be like last year,” senior Morgan Morozoff said.
Despite good attendance and grades, students get their privileges taken away all due to these new rules.
“I am a hard-working student, and, unfortunately, I can’t leave early when I have good grades and attendance,” junior Sidney Mizell said.
Students feel like there is no point in trying to have high grades or showing up to school often because there is no award anymore.
“I feel like the rule should be where if you have good attendance and have an A or B in a class, you shouldn’t have to take your finals,” sophomore Hunter Chaffin said.
Possibly they changed the rules due to poor efforts.
“I think they changed the rules because many students refused to try or just did poorly,” sophomore Jamyriya Wilson said.
Multiple students agree the new rules are inferior in comparison to last year’s and claim that the school should transition back.
“I think it’s a very limited way to be exempt because there are not a lot of semester classes, and most classes are one-year classes so it causes fewer kids to be able to be exempt,” junior Brock Brown said. “I think the new exemption rules took away from the kids from bettering themselves and being involved, and took away awards from the kids who dedicate themselves.”
