Playoff-ready.
Under new head coach Wayne Ware the Wildkats managed to roll over many of their opponents, most notably in the 70-35 super blowout against Conroe High, and put up tough fights finishing third in district with a record of 12-4. .
To carry their success into the postseason the team is preparing their face off against the Westfield Mustangs at the Woodlands tonight in the first round of playoffs. Matching their district record from last year under a new coach’s system is a remarkable achievement.
“Coach Ware really let us be a player-led team,” senior Chandler Beasley said. “We found success in believing in his process.”
Not only did the team stay successful, but it also reached new milestones and made memories to look back at.
“The highlight of the season to me was beating College Park for the first time in program history at home,” Beasley said.
From the first game on, the Wildkats asserted their dominance. Most teams in the district were not able to keep up with the athleticism, pace and understanding of the game that our team brought to the court.
“My favorite moment of the season was the first game of district against Caney Creek,” junior SJ Young said. “When I came down the lane in traffic and dunked it.”
The regular season however was only a door opener on their way into the postseason.
“Going into the playoffs I feel like we beat them before,” senior Irvin Cortes said. “We still have that taste in our mouths. We want to go further than just the first round. My goal is to go to the third round, so we’re going to come out there and play hard no matter what.”
