“So I’m headed back down there’s a shadow up here. Get ready for 6 more weeks of winter this year.”

Every year in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania The Groundhog Club hosts a ceremony to declare what their groundhog “Punxsutawney Phil” predicts.  With the artic weather predicted for the next few days, it is obvious Phil was correct when he saw his shadow. Today’s low is 29 degrees and tomorrow show dip to the low 20s.  

“I honestly wished that It wouldn’t be cold for another 6 weeks,” junior Natalia Herrera said. “It just stopped being cold and now another cold front is coming through texas.”

Phil isn’t the only famous groundhog on this earth, in other states there are many other groundhogs that predict the weather. 

“I didn’t know that there were other famous groundhogs that celebrate groundhog day,” junior Phoenix Rushing said. “I’m definitely going to look more into that because I find Groundhog Day quite interesting.”

Groundhog’s aren’t the only animals celebrated that day, other states like Florida have other animals such as Insects, armadillos, foxes and gators.

“I didn’t know that there were other animals that celebrate Groundhog Day,” senior Skarleth Rivera said. “I didn’t really know much about Groundhog day until It recently started showing up on my TikTok feed.”

Everyone has mixed opinions on Phil’s prediction, most hate the idea of 6 more weeks of Winter and other love the idea of freezing cold mornings.

“I personally love the cold because winter is my favorite season,” said senior Lindsay Boston. “Hopefully phil was right and If he was I can’t wait to snuggle up in my blanket again.

Forty two out of 100 people prefer winter over summer. This subject is very controversial. What is better? Summer nights or winter days?

“I honestly can’t wait for summer to come,” junior Yaire Torres said. “I love going to the beach and hanging out with my family and friends.
