The senior center was quiet as only the noise was the light conversation and television filled the room. Many seniors had already grown into a routine, but something was different. With bottles of polish and hair tools the visitors turned the common room into a place of glamour and style. The cosmology students had the opportunity to go and glam up the residents Worthington Manor on February 27.

“I felt a little nervous but I was also so excited to see them and make someone’s day better,” junior Makayla Baird said. “Making them feel good about themselves, or just being another person they can talk to. This made my day better and made me feel better as a person knowing they might not have friends or loved ones who come and visit them, but I loved seeing how they communicate with each other and act like a big family.”
This experience was like no other, giving back to a group of people that might not get as much attention as before and giving them a time to remember is such a thoughtful act.
“My favorite part of the senior center was being able to do their nails and hair after not getting these services in a long time,” junior Alondra Ortiz said. “It felt amazing that I could have the opportunity to take care of the seniors’ hair and nails and make them feel happier and confident.”
Throughout the day, many seniors and students bonded and talked about their own personal lives and experiences.
“My favorite part of going to the senior center was getting to talk to the ladies about their life as they grew up, and what experiences they have lived through,” junior Kyndall Schiffner said. “Specifically one lady talked about her marriage and how the standards between men and women have changed over the years.”
From glam to gathering experience for the cosmo students, giving back to the community is a privilege like no other.

“I love being able to give back to the community because it’s so important to be able to be blessed enough to have the opportunity to share everything with grace,” Schiffner said.
With each nail painted and each strand of hair curled, the students overall made the seniors environment and day way better.
“I was so excited to see the seniors and meet them, their reaction after all the treatments we gave them was so wholesome since they loved it,” Baird said. “They were so happy to see someone different and come take care of them and just do something special for them. It’s the little things that count.”
