Long lines, jammed parking lots and angry drivers. That seems to be the new reality as more students are trying to find parking spots and construction has closed lots around campus.
As time is ticking to 7:15 a.m., students have to leave their houses much earlier just to make it to school on time. Once they get there, they better be prepared to make some people mad as they find places to park.
“I have to get here 30 minutes early in order to get a parking spot,” senior Kameron Smith said. “As soon as I get here, everyone is crammed trying to find a parking spot and people get really angry, so you’re already starting your day off bad.”
Along with leaving the house earlier, that means some Wildkats have to wake up earlier than they want to – and most people struggle to be morning people.
“I have to wake up and leave way earlier due to the morning traffic,” junior Nicholas Osorio said. “Honestly, when the cop isn’t directing the traffic, everything is more calm and it makes it easier to get to school.”
Traffic from both the high school and the elementary schools are combining, creating an even bigger mess for everyone.
“Driving in the morning is really difficult because it’s only a one way road,” senior Allison Sanchez said. “That road conjoins traffic with the elementary school so it can get really backed up, especially with all of the construction they are doing.
Only one way is allowed during drop off, causing traffic between the arrivals of students. Multiple students have missed their turn and had to go all the way around and go through traffic again due to the one way roads.
“On the first day of school the traffic was so bad that I pulled in at 6:30 a.m., and I didn’t get into the school until 7:17 a.m., “ senior Katelyn Davies said. “In the CTE lot it is hard to cut over to turn in, so I had to go all the way around because I couldn’t turn in.”
Many students believe there is a better way for everyone to get into the school parking lots. The reason being there is too much going on at once with the parents and student drivers.
“I think there has to be a better way to have routes, especially separating drop off and student parking,” senior River Shaunfield said. “Students need to get to school early for all sorts of reasons and having parents and students in one line has already caused traffic issues”
