WAITING IN THE WINGS. Looking forward to their turn to present their mums, senior Jordynn Sager and junior Sabrina Nasiers and by during the first period ceremony.

Bells and ribbons. Flowers and bling. There are a lot of components to creating the perfect mum or garter for homecoming.

The advanced floral design students created homecoming mums or garters for students in the STRIDE program and presented them the Friday of homecoming during first period. The floral students learned floral skills while promoting some homecoming spirit.

“We did this gesture because the students were able to learn skills like fulfilling an order, creating larger projects and incorporating a group of students that tends to get overlooked,” floral teacher Andrea Slott said. “I enjoyed watching the students plan out the projects and have fun while doing so.”

MAKING CONNECTIONS. Handing off a garter to freshman Hayden Urbanovsky, sophomore Taylor Walker participates in the new hoco tradition.

The kids completed an order form with their specifications of what they wanted on their mum or garter.

“It was very wholesome and it spread positivity,” junior Taylor Walker said. “I liked the fact that we could decorate it personally for the specific kid.”

HOMECOMING HAND-OFF. Adding another garter to his collection, freshman Chase Duvall takes the garter junior Tatum Authement ade for him in advanced floral design class.

The homecoming gifts made everyone involved filled with homecoming spirit.

“Most of that class doesn’t get the opportunity to get things like that for homecoming or special occasions, so it felt good being able to make their day and see them smile,” junior Tatum Authement said.

SOMETHING PURPLE. Getting ready to wear hi garter all day, junior Bogart Menie allows junior Kelsi Adams to put the garter around his arm. The members of the floral design class took orders for the mums and garters and created personalized products for students in STRIDE.

This was a new way of learning homecoming traditions for the advance floral students.

“It was definitely a learning experience for the floral students as we had to manage all of our clients needs along with limited time and materials, but in the end, we were able to pull it all together,” senior Ny’Terriae Franks said.

DREAMS COME TRUE. Overwhelmed with homecoming joy, senior Angelica Rodriguez Lugo can hardly contain her emotion after seeing her mum.

Seeing the happiness was a reward for the hard work it took to create the mums and garters.

“I felt honored to get the privilege of being able to be a part of something like this for the STRIDE class, and the best part about it all was being rewarding by seeing their smiling faces,” junior Carter Smith said.
