Lights up. Script down. It’s showtime. Break a leg. 

This Wednesday the Wildkat Drama Department will debut their One Act Play, Eurydice, at 7:00 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. The play is a retelling of the myth of Orpheus from the perspective of Eurydice. 

“This is a beautiful play about love, loss and what we leave behind,” drama teacher Cassandra Matlock said. “The cast has worked very hard to create a lovely, lyrical style of acting that is quirky, strange and endearing.”

The director is well proud of the ensemble commitment to the art and is well appreciative of the cast and crew. 

“The commitment they show towards their craft and each other is a gift that will keep rewarding them far into the future,” Matlock said. “This is one of my favorite shows and one of my favorite cast and crew.”

The atmosphere of the coming together story boosted the mentality of both cast and crew. 

“The play has a story with great emotion and heartfelt moments,” sophomore Haley Fleming said. “The cast and crew show such an amazing atmosphere to work, and we come up with some hilarious and great ideas.”

This is a memorable experience for all the cast and crew members. The story of the play is one members can relate to. 

“I love the story of the play,” senior Cece Barrera said. “I’m a helpless romantic so the noticeable and endless love between the two main characters is so sweet. There is nothing like this opportunity. It is so beautifully put together.”

Members who are not on stage still play a huge role in the play. 

“Crew is so important because backstage we make the scenery so beautiful while not getting seen from the crowd,” sophomore Colton Backhus said. “We have beautiful lights and props backstage that bring together the whole play of Euridice.”

The school is also hosting the One Act Play district competition in March. Willis’s time at the Zone competition on May 5, 2020 is around 5:30.

“This play will be my final bow to public school theatre productions as I leave to explore my own education and career,” senior Sidney Wadley said. “I will be taking with me all the experiences I’ve had as I pull myself past this final obstacle.”
