The lights grow dim. The curtains slowly open as music starts playing. The audience is silent, awaiting for an amazing show to begin. Grab a microphone and dancing shoes, the musical is just around the corner.

Tryouts for the winter musical will be held the first week of December with auditions from musicals or small scenes.

The musical this year will be a different style than the previous years.

We are doing a ‘cabaret style’ musical this year, which means it will be scenes from several musicals,” drama teacher Cassandra Matlock said. “So think a variety show with the theme being a big musical.”

Between solos and ensembles, people are looking for a part in the show.

“I’m trying out for the musical since I think dancing is super fun, and the experience is unlike most things because it is a genuinely happy place for me,” junior Colton Land said.

Some people are born to be on the stage and perform.

“I take any chance I get to perform because I love it,” sophomore Emily Alexander said. “I am hoping I get a solo in this show.”

January will be filled with fun practices and rehearsals to prepare.

“We will rehearse in January a few times a week and then put on the show on a Saturday with a matinee and a night show!” Matlock said. “It will be fun and a chance to get back on stage.”

Find some dancing shoes. Lots of moving and grooving to practice for the show.

“I would love to be apart of the ensemble because I love to dance,” Land said. “I will prepare by continuously practicing my moves.”

The best part seems to be the relationships made on and off the stage.

“I am really looking forward to hanging out with some really cool people,” Alexander said.
