The point guard races down the court. Two more points and they advance in their bracket. The ball is passed from player to player as time continues to run out. As a last resort, the point guard goes for the three and makes the shot in just enough time. “WHOOSH.” Nothin but net.

On August 25th the Varsity Boys Basketball team will travel to San Antonio until the 27th for a shootout. The basketball team worked hard all summer, and has been working hard since the first day of school.

“I’m ready to win,” senior David Lewis said. “We have been working hard, and becoming closer as teammates.”

The players are excited to get an opportunity to compete against teams outside of Houston. They are also getting an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of college scouts.

“This is a great opportunity,”  senior Colton Taylor said. “This is my senior year and to finally get a chance to get seen by college scouts, that motivates me to do well in our games.”

Going to San Antonio also gives the boys the chance to show how hard they’ve been working and a chance to make adjustments before the season starts.

“ Practice has been hard but we are looking good,” junior Adrian Pahudpod said. “We practice everyday during the week and workout during the weekends, but there is always room for improvement and I feel like the shootout can help us see what we need to work on.”

The players are hoping to come back from the San Antonio Shootout with multiple wins and more knowledge then they already have.

“We are ready to bounce back from last season,” junior Kavontrae Johnson said. “Last year we did not work this hard and we know that we will have a great season this year, and y’all better be ready for a tough team that is coming for it all.”
