The PSAT will be given to sophomores and juniors on October 16, 2019.

The PSAT is a practice for the SAT. It will ask a series of questions from different subjects.  the PSAT includes two sections – evidence-based reading & writing and math – comprised of three tests: reading, writing & language, and math.

“Take the PSAT if you are thinking about taking the SAT or wanting to apply for college,” Stephanie Osborn said.

Freshmen have the option to take the PSAT, but will have to pay a fee of $12.

“Familiarize yourself with PSAT formatting will help to prepare you for the SAT and college applications,” Osborne said.

The PSAT also serves as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship Program. It also serves as a practice test for the SAT, but be aware that you can’t submit PSAT scores to colleges as your standardized test scores.

To prepare for the test, the College Board has practice info available.

“Students taking the PSAT should try taking the practice PSAT test online at my collegeboard.org,” Osborn said. “It will provide a chance for the student to study and get used to the pressure.”
