Locked doors lead to problems in mornings
When the busses arrive and the cars pull into the school, it is time for the students to come in and start the day. The problem: doors are locked and students are unable to enter their classrooms or halls. Instead, students stand in a giant mob waiting for the doors to open and the day to begin.
This is a huge problem for many reasons, especially in times like these with a dangerous pandemic still spreading rapidly.
When people are let into the school and left standing around in the hallways chit chatting and hanging out for 20 minutes or more, a lot of problems are presented. One of which being the fact that when everyone is standing in huge crowds and not wearing their masks they have a higher chance of getting COVID-19. A lot of people in the school are already getting the virus due to the mask mandate being lifted and the crowded hallways are not helping keep the virus to a minimum.
Having all the students locked up in this tiny area presents other problems as well, one of which being the inability to go to their class at the beginning of the day and having extra time to do the warm-up and maybe even being able to do work for other classes. When people are standing in a hallway unable to sit they are restricted and unable to get on their laptops, which is the main device students complete their work on.
People that suffer with social anxiety or claustrophobia may also believe that the locked doors and full hallways might not be one of the best ideas. When people with social anxiety are standing around a hallway filled with people they maybe don’t know they get stressed out and might even have a panic attack. They don’t often go talk to people they do know because of all the stress. Claustrophobic people may also have problems because of the small and full spaces. Putting somebody through these episodes is just cruel and may cause them to not want to arrive at school most of the time.
An alternative to these crowded, messy hallways would be to open up the doors and allow students to go about their day rather than locking them up in a hallway. People that suffer from these locked up hallways either by getting COVID-19 or panic attacks due to high stress levels would appreciate this greatly. Trusting the students to get to class on time and roaming the hallways gives them the ability to do better, students should be trusted to function correctly.
