Homecoming is supposed to be the highlight of the year, but when the night is spent with a date, it can be the definition of uncomfortable. The pressure is on for everything to be perfect. Those that believe homecoming is  going to be like “High School Musical,” have a rude awakening. 

While going solo seems inconvenient, it’s quite the opposite. Going unattended allows one to skip the awkward pictures before and excruciatingly long slow dances. Not only missing out on the pictures but the cringeworthy exchange of mums and garters. Teenage years seem like they fly fast but when living in them they are a lot longer than you think. There will be plenty of weird moments to experience. Don’t waste one of the better ones on a lame date turned into an agonizing tense dance.

A better alternative is to go with a good group of friends felt comfortable with. When hanging out with friends, people tend to get more relaxed and have more fun. Go grab dinner, head to the dance and take tons of pictures with your group. Those memories will mean so much ten years down the road then the awkward pictures taken with a stranger. 

It’s understandable to want to go with a partner to an event like a dance, but to have a date just because of peer pressure, is not a good idea.  So when thinking about going with a date who is a stranger who knows none of the people in the friend group, don’t do it. Go with that group of closest friends or even alone and find a group when you get there.
