Be the change. Spread kindness like confetti. Smile.
The phrases greeted Wildkats on the sidewalks as they entered the school today. Balancing Bridge, a new organization on campus, is making its way around campus for all women of all high school grades to join. This new club is starting to grow, as well as the girls’ self-assurance.
The girls gathered together on October 9th to write influential and positive quotes and drawings on the sidewalk on the side of the school to empower women and their confidence. They plan to do great things to bring girls together and make them feel seen and heard.
“There are multiple reasons why I wanted to join, first of all to make more friends, while also to have more school spirit,” junior Kimberly Grandos said. “I want to spread more kindness and motivation to others, especially the freshmen because they’re in the position of where they have to be more locked in and if they’re motivated by a club like us, they’ll be able to enjoy high school a lot more and get the full positive experience.”
The club was created by junior Braelynn Wheeler, Her goal is to bring awareness to women’s mental health and support from a group of girls brings her one step closer to achieve that goal.
“Balancing Bridge is important to me because I would like to make a difference in my community,” junior Alegra Lopez said. “I think that in a state as large as Texas, there’s a lot that can be done, even in an area like ours.”
High school girls struggle a lot on their own and this club is here to make it known that no one is alone and someone will always be ready to listen.
“I wanted to join balancing bridge because I think it’s a really cool thing Braelynn is doing,” junior Berkeley Hummel-Harris said. “I think women’s mental health is really important and should be more talked about, especially as high school girls. It’s really hard on us sometimes so I think Braelynn will succeed in this vision she has planned.”

The sidewalk on the gymnasium side of the school was covered with motivating and positive quotes that everyone will see as they walk by. It brings a confident and effective mindset to set your day with.
“I think the chalk idea was a great activity for us to do because as people walk into the building they will see these positive affirmations,” junior Ashtyn King said. “Maybe it’ll change their view of how their day is going to go or change their view of how they’re going to go about things that day.I just think it’ll have a positive mindset overall on the student body.”
Chalk is more than just a playful activity, the girls had fun while also having the thought of inspiring others and making people happy as they go by.
“I chose to do chalk as our activity today because I think it’s really important for the school to have positivity all around the school and brighten peoples days before and after school,” Wheeler said. “When they arrive and when they leave they’ll be reminded, and I just wanted to make a positive impact on everyone.”
