Four different colors, four different teams and four different grades. All fighting for the bragging rights as powder puff champs. The players and coaches are all equally excited for this year’s face off.
Powder puff will be held on May 14. Games start at 4 p.m. at Wildkat Field.
Powder puff isn’t just about going out and winning, it’s about new friendships being made and students coming together to support each other. It doesn’t just offer friendships, it also gives students a chance to move their body every day.
“I think it’s good for people that need to make friends and socialize and really get you out of your comfort zone.” Junior Addy Ross said “It’s good for mental health to get your mind off of things and it’s a fun way of getting active and moving your body.”
The benefits for students are great and the benefits of the fundraiser is even greater. Powder puff offers students such a great opportunity to be around friends and supports students’ futures.
“In the past year that I’ve done powder puff, I’ve loved it. I’ve always had so much fun with my friends.” sophomore Sydnee Parker said. “This year I’m a little bit nervous because we have very few girls participating so I don’t know if we will do as well.”
The nerves are definitely overwhelming but the reward is just as overwhelming. Just friends and classmates out on the field, bringing the energy and chasing the win.
“Powder puff is honestly so fun because everyone gets really into it and the energy is just amazing.” freshman Brooklyn King said. “My favorite part is being out on the field with everyone and making memories with my friends”
Powder puff allows the students to bring energy and passion to the field and put out their all. It’s a great way for students to bring out their competitive side and come together.
“I’ve done powder puff every year because I love the energy and competition it brings.” senior Breanna Shiwart said. “It’s one of the few times where girls get to step into a space that’s usually dominated by boys and prove we can be just as tough, strategic, and driven.”
It’s not just the friendships that come with powder puff, the coaches are just as important.
“The impact that the coaches have on me during powder puff practice is them just teaching me and the girls the basics of it and plays that would be beneficial for us when playing,” junior Arianna Cortes said. “As a group of girls signing up for powder puff we all come from completely different sports and coming together and using our different skills for our own sports, benefits the success we have as a powder puff team. My favorite play that we do as a powder puff team is probably any play that has to do with tricking the other team or acting like we are running a play than what the actual play is.”
