WILDKAT SALON PRESENTS. Saturday, Oct. 28 is Salon Day. Members of the cosmetology classes will pamper customers with haircuts, manicures and much more.

There is magic in the cosmetology air.

Cosmetology is hosting another Salon Day on Saturday, October 28th, from 10 am- 4pm. It is a great day to let the students work a little magic with a new haircut, a Brazilian Blowout or a mani or pedi.

Practicing their real world cosmetology skills for the first Salon Day of the year, nerves are high, but being patient is always a perfect first step.

“The best part about salon day is getting a real world experience and getting to feel what I would actually be doing for my career,” junior Mallori Mitchell said. “Especially because this year feels the most real because I am getting to do what I enjoy most, hair! Sometimes I get a little nervous that I’m going to mess up but I then realize that I’m learning, and it’s okay to make mistakes.”

The magic that every cosmetology student was looking for, a real world learning experience.

“My favorite part about Salon Day is the learning experience, because you get to learn so many different things like hair, nails, lashes, and even lifestyle,” junior Valerie Jaramillo said. “I also love meeting lots of people.”

Interacting with clients helps to develop social skills for the future

“My favorite part about cosmetology is doing girly things with my friends,”  sophomore Dahlyla Tyson said. “I think the best part about the Salon day is going to be interacting with the clients. I love talking to my clients because I am a very talkative gal.”

This program has been holding salon days since their opening. Many students are allowed to grow and meet potential clients starting at these salon days in cosmetology class. The opportunity to get training for a career while still in high school has been life changing for many cosmetology students.

“I think it’s awesome that I have the opportunity to go to high school and learn my career when most students are learning math,” Mitchell said.

Salon days give cosmetology students a way to go above and beyond. The real-world experience is something that will help them as they leave high school and move on to careers in the industry.

“My favorite part of cosmetology is being able to make people feel better about themselves,” junior Clarice Ivey said.  “While cosmetology is fun, it is also very very nerve wracking. I get nervous because I want to always go above and beyond my clients expectations. I love that salon days are very hands-on and give a very real-world experience.”
