As the year comes to an end, the Christmas spirit is filling the homes of our community, and is ready to give back. The automotive classes brings the school and community together for the 2nd Annual Car and Bike Show and Toy Drive.
The event will be Dec. 7 at the CTE Center parking lot in FM-830 lasting from 10 am to 2 pm.
The car show was started in December 2023 as a way to give back to the community. This event is great for a family get-together.
“This car show is a way for giving back and bringing together our local community,” automotive teacher Allan Hammond said. “We started this last year in hopes to bring more attention and help out the children.”
The car show is initially a fundraiser and toy drive for children in need and gives others the ability to share the love through a social event.
“All of the proceeds are going to the Wildkat Rescue Center and the automotive program here at the Willis CTE Center” Hammond said. “The toys will be distributed to kids in need.”
There is a lot to see at the show. The entries will be like pieces of art on display to the public.
“Last year, I saw very detailed vehicles and amazing paint jobs,” junior Diana Negrete said. “It’s honestly a great way for others to come together as a community and brings awareness to donate many gifts to children in need.”
For those interested in registering and showing off their prize ride, the registration is an unwrapped toy or $25. There can also be walk-ins when registering or on the day of the event. Registration end at noon.
From bright colors to esteemed engines, all sorts of vehicles are welcomed at the car show. Prizes will be handed out towards the end of the event involving votes and a ballot by the people.
“We have all sorts of trophies for the vehicles” Hammond said. “There are categories such as: best engine, best paint job, best interior. There are even trophies that include Student Choice, Instructor Choice, and People’s Choice.”
Besides the car show, this event will also involve other organizations located at the CTE Center. Organizations such as Law Enforcement and Culinary students will take part of the event.
“We’re gonna have our very own security unit at the event given to us by the law class here on campus.” Hammond said, “And I believe the culinary will hold a sort of diner for families to come in and have a bite while looking.”
The Willis Car Show strives to give back to their community by showing off a life’s work. It opens doors to those passionate about automotive or those who just appreciate different forms of art. From a personal visit from Santa to a hot meal on a cold day, this year’s car show will bring smiles to those in need.
“We are hoping to make this event annual and include other events such as a Hot-Wheels race.” Hammond said. “This is truly a great family event, and I would love to bring the Christmas Spirit throughout Willis.”
