Taylor Swift was in attendance at Super Bowl LIX, supporting her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. At different points during the game, Swift was shown on the jumbotron, resulting in an overwhelming amount of boos from the crowd.
Hearing the boos did not affect Swift, she seemed to just look confused and laughed at the situation.
In the game, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles competed against each other. Swift was simply supporting her boyfriend, as a girlfriend usually does. Many football fans are upset she appears on screen, but it is obvious that she doesn’t want to be shown either.
With Swift’s appearance at football games, the NFL has seen a spike in viewership and merchandise sales, mostly from female fans. Since the fall of 2023, Swift has made the NFL nearly 1 billion dollars.
At the Eras Tour, Kelce was met with cheers and applause from fans, but Swift has been met with the opposite at football games. Swift and Kelce are just an example of a couple that supports each other. Being shown on broadcasts and screens it is not her fault, the NFL is simply capitalizing on her fame.
Saquon Barkley, an Eagles player, has defended Swift over the negative reactions she received at the Super Bowl. In an interview, he stated he didnt understand why Swift was getting hate as she has made the game bigger.
Swift grew up in Philadelphia as a lifelong Eagles fan, even referencing her Eagles t-shirt in her song, “gold rush.” It is suspected that this is the reason she was booed at the game, but this is not the first or last time this has occurred, it happens at almost every game she appears at. If she isn’t booed at the games, she is the victim of hate on social media.
