The world of fairytale creatures; blind mice, living gingerbread, a talking donkey and an ogre with the layers of an onion are coming to the theater.
Shrek is the musical for 2026. Auditions are Oct. 6-7.
“It’s fun and cute, it’s exciting,” theater teacher Mrs Matlock said. “The playwright is surprisingly deep. The author wrote a rabbit hole and brings some forensic wisdom.”
With all the options of fairytale creatures, it could be hard to decide on which role the actors want. Some students already have their sights on one.
“I would like to be Shrek” senior Alexander Talkington said. “He’s a role from a movie I grew up with and would be a big role in a theater production for a few years.”
The potential cast members are excited about the characters is one thing.
“The costumes and set is gonna look amazing,” junior Havana Canal said “It’s a fairy tale show so it is gonna look wonderful.”
With all the students’ delights seeming to come true. could they be ready for a change of scenery in the high school plays?
“I feel ready for the upcoming musical,” senior Jhun Abriquez said. “I’ve been doing this for three years now, so I’m pretty confident.”
Some of the actors and actresses have seen the actual musical and want to see the vision up on the stage.
“The robin hood fight scene is going to be great” senior Avalon Barretto said “It’s awesome and really and the song is banger.”
The script and characters are set and students know how to prepare for the auditions.
“Vocal rest and go over the music and script and rehearsal material is how to get ready” senior Aiden Morse said “It’s gonna be bad, so my voice is well rested after choir.”
The actors and actresses know what they’re in for and what they can expect. The crew knows how the musical come to life.
“We will pull inspiration from other set designs and work with the students art abilities,” tech theater teacher Meg Stadley said. “We work with materials we already have and remake them to match my and the students’ vision for what we want the set to look like.”
