The Willis Wildkats are proving themselves for another great season and starting off strong. After many doubts about the Wildkats team this year and a rough start in round one, the team continues to prove themselves and win football games. The highlight of the season so far was the big win against their district rival The Woodlands, who they beat for the third year in a row
The exciting 42-30 win in front of a home crowd earned team coveted title of The Whataburger Team of the Week.
“Being a part of the team that won feels amazing.” senior Trentyn Braun said. “I get to see all the hard work that me and my teammates put in over the summer and spring pay off.”
Due to the Wildkats coming out with the rivalry win, VYPE Houston recognized them as The Whataburger Team of The Week, which is a great honor in the Houston area. A huge contribution to the outcome of the game was Texas commit Jermaine Bishop Jr. having a game that will never be forgotten. Bishop, a UT commit, played six positions in the game against The Highlanders.
“It’s a true blessing for the guys to be able to gain such an accomplishment so it just shows that the work we are putting in is paying off,” senior Jermaine Bishop Jr. said.
The Kats are getting the recognition they deserve after months of hard work and offseason training, another huge reason for their success is the leadership by both coaches and captains of the team.
“As a captain of the Willis Wildkats It was amazing to receive this award. It not only showed our team dedication but it showed how we performed,” senior Carter Williams said. “It’s not all the time you get to be recognized like this and when you do everyone will know from your town to the whole state. So it’s an honor to be a captain and also to hold and show the team we can do it again.”
