The Houston Texans are now 2-4 after their loss to the Seattle Seahawks, and there’s a few things that fans can take away from this game.
For context; The wide receivers for the Texans are Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Christian Kirk, Jayden Higgins, Jalyin Noel, Braxton Berrios, Xavier Hutchinson and Justin Watson.
Nico Collins has been the Texans number one receiver since 2023, quarterback; C.J. Stroud’s first year. Tank Dell, the Texans 2023 third-round pick, suffered a torn ACL and MCL in December of 2024 and has yet to return to the team. Christian Kirk, the team’s slot receiver acquired this offseason from the Jaguars, suffered some sort of hamstring injury and didn’t play. Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel are the two rookies Houston drafted in this year’s draft. Both have lots of development needed to be done but both have looked promising when Stroud got them the ball. Braxton Berrios and Justin Watson, two older guys who to be honest, doesn’t look good out there, and Xavier Hutchinson, another young receiver who’s shown flashes of being a serviceable receiver but doesn’t get looked at too often.
All that being said, Nico Collins suffered a concussion during the second-half of the game, and with the Texans number two and three receivers already out with injuries, Stroud had to look for the younger guys, his tight end Dalton Schultz, and Berrios.
Also to note, Dalton Schultz was seen holding his chest on the sideline at times, and fans noticed that he would come off the field after almost every-other play, which happens with tight ends but not THAT much.

The first takeaway that was very clear was the offensive line still sucks. They stepped up in their two previous games against the 1-6 Titans, who is possibly the worst team in the league, and the 1-5 Ravens, whose defense was riddled with injuries. Both of the teams the offensive-line did good against were terrible, two of the worst teams in the league, so going up against the now 5-2 Seahawks, who are now tied for first place in the entire NFC, showed their true colors and how bad this o-line is.
The second takeaway is the leadership. During interviews with reporters after the game and the next day, head coach Demico Ryans, was asked about the teams defensive strategy covering a top-5 wide-receiver in the NFL: Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Demico told reporters that the strategy was the press Jaxon and get in his chest off the line. Something that superstar cornerback, Derek Stingley Jr. didn’t do. Demico also stated that he needs the guys to run the game plan, showing a lack of coachability and/or leadership from the players and coaching staff.
The third and final takeaway is the receivers on the Texans stepping up. The only options C.J. Stroud has is Nico Collins, Christian Kirk, Tank Dell and Dalton Schultz, All who, except Schultz, is injured. These younger guys; Higgins, Noel and Hutchinson all need to step up for this team. If that means having a quicker release off the line or having better cuts on your routes then by all means, improve it. Kirk is 28, Berrios is 30, Watson is 29, Schultz is 29, these guys aren’t here for the long term. They’re stepping in now and filling the holes the two rookies and Hutchinson need to fill, and if they can’t fill it, the draft, sign, or trade for new guys who are going to be what this team needs.
All that to say: This season is probably over. This is the Texans rest of year schedule: They play the 5-2 49ers, the 5-2 Broncos, the 4-3 Jaguars, the 1-6 Titans, the 4-2 Bills, the 6-1 Colts, the 4-3 Chiefs, the 2-5 Cardinals, the 2-5 Raiders, the 4-3 Chargers and the 6-1 Colts again. The Texans play against three teams for the rest of the season with a losing record. The Texans have one of the hardest schedules in the league and aren’t good enough for it.
Let’s all pray the Texans can turn it around.
