Right and ready. Getting the job done. Come together as family.
The goals are easy. The football team knows the battle will be tough, but they are prepared for the task at hand.
When the Wildkats face the Temple Wildcats tonight at Berton A. Yates Stadium for the home opener, the team is ready to get a little retribution.
After a tough loss last year, the 3-hour bus ride home was brutal for the Wildkats, but tonight’s game is under the lights of their home stadium. This time the Temple team has to make that 150-mile trek to the game.
It is the hope of all Wildkat fans that the bus ride home is equally tough for the Wildcats after tonight’s game.
“We’ve been getting real physical,” junior De’Quentin Willis said. “Coach (Jeff) Slafka has been working with us in the lab getting us right and ready.”
Each player knows what they have to do to stop the Temple team.
“Everyone has to do their job,” sophomore Jermaine Bishop said. “We got to stick to our task and come together as a family.”
Quarterback senior DJ Lagway had an amazing game against last week’s opponent, Bryan Rudder. This week the state will be watching the 5-star athlete to see if he can repeat some of the magic of last week’s game.
“I’m ready to go out and compete,” Lagway said. “It being my senior year is exciting. I’ve been here for four years, and I am ready to get out of here and be a Gator.”
Last year’s game against Temple was a tough one for junior Terri Lawrence. After a season-ending injury, he is ready to show the Temple team more than the scars on his knee.
“I know this game took me out last year, but I’m not nervous or anything,” Lawrence said. “I’m just ready to show out and play better than last year.”
