MATERIAL GIRLS. With members of the girls basketball team, junior Gabrianna Mize cheers on the Wildkats in her 80s inspired attire.

Loud music. Kids screaming for candy. Tons of bright colors. It all brings the small community of Willis together to have a good time as the Wildkats travel through the decades for the homecoming parade.

The theme of Wildkats through the Decades was evident in all the floats and costumes at the parade.

The cheer team they didn’t just prepare and make their amazing float. The cheer team also prepared routines to perform to show the love and passion that they give to the community. For these reasons, they received the Best in Show award from the judges.

“Every day the cheer team came in early to practice our routine,” said junior Mylee Williams. “And we prepared with our float and got together to work on it.”

Being a multisport athlete Mylee Williams had to face the challenges of helping prepare for two floats. She managed to split her time and win two awards for each of her sports. The volleyball team also won an award for the parade. They were named Most Creative by the judges.

“For the parade, I feel good about winning for volleyball and cheer because since I do both, it was kind of hard to split my time to like work on both but I’m really proud that both of us won,” said Williams. “I did walk with cheer, but I know volleyball put on a show to win.”

The homecoming parade is an important tradition because it gets everybody excited for the game on Friday. You can feel the spirit and joy flow through the streets of Willis.

“It’s just fun seeing everybody get together. That’s my favorite part about it,”  Head Athletic Trainer Scott McClatchy said. “The camaraderie, the fun, the spirit. I mean, everybody gets amped up for the game.”

The parade brings the whole community together to show the school spirit that runs through the city of Willis.

“This is what brings the community together,” McClatchy said.  “This is all about Willis and the town, not just school and to see when you go through this, this whole parade route, you see the entire community comes out for this thing.”
