As the Wildkats head into the last game of the regular season this Friday against Oak Ridge, they are sitting on top on the district with a 9-0 record after a victory against The Woodlands on Saturday, Oct. 28.
It was Willis versus The Woodlands. Dub against Dub.
The biggest game of the season was scheduled for Thursday, but due to rain delays and tornado warnings, the game was moved to Saturday, October 28th.
Both teams came and fought a hard battle, but ultimately the Wildkats came out on top and proved they are The Real Dub with their 60-52 win. The Wildkats will forever bleed purple, and it shows. This contributes to their chemistry and every win.
“My favorite part of this team is how we all grew up together and have been playing together since we were little kids,” senior A’Mauree Holmes said. “Also the chemistry on the team. It all contributed a lot to our win. I am feeling great, very confident and ready for the playoffs.”
The team stepped up, especially the newest Wildkat kicker.
“We have a great group of guys. We also had great possessions on offense and great defensive stops, but also Justin (Willis) with a very clutch kick,” junior Daylion Robinson said. “Great way to close out the season, 9-0, district champs.”
Control gave the Wildkats the advantage on Saturday. This gave the Woodlands no chance.
“I think that the biggest contributing factor to our win was our defense,” senior Debraun Hampton said. “They came through when we needed them too. The biggest play of the game was when Justin (Willis) kicked a field goal to put us up three more points, when we were already up. We controlled the pressure, even though everybody was against us. We controlled and handled things nicely, giving ourselves the advantage to win.”
Fight, fight, fight, as the Willis fight song says. These boys fought until the clock ran out, giving them victory.
“We came together as a team, fought as a team, and believed in each other,” junior Terri Lawrence said. “We took the ‘W’ to close the season, to be district champs. This being our first win over The Woodlands feels great, and we came out with a positive mind set that we were going to win from the jump, even on Thursday, but we got delayed until Saturday, still coming out with a positive mind set. We came out, showed up and showed out and it put us on top.”
