READY TO DOMINATE. Taking the field against Cleveland freshman Day’Jon Moore, senior Derek Lagway and , senor Zach Lang run through the victory line with their teammates.

Time ticking. Cheerleaders cheering. Everyone in the stands going crazy. Wildkats never let up not even till the last second. Wildkats strive to improve every day showing everyone what they are made of.

The Willis football team is starting off strong this season with an undefeated district record. The 6-0 Wildkats are selling out games and breaking records. The Wildkats are ranked 17th overall for the 6A district in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. Willis is also tied for 1st in the 13-6A district and DJ Lagway was awarded the QB of the week in Dave Campbell’s week 4 magazine. Last week, the team scored 75 points to Cleveland’s 14. This is the highest scoring game in the school’s history.

Tonight the undefeated Wildkats face College Park (3-2) at Woodforest Stadium at 7:00 P.M.

“Our mindset and focus have not changed from when we started at the beginning of the season,” Coach Trent Miller said. “Our focus is to keep the main thing the main thing! We continue to improve who we are as a team daily and block out all of the outside distractions. Our focus is on US and what we can do to improve daily. We strive daily to improve and focus on controlling what we can control and to get better every single day as men and players.”

Wildkat Kulture is important to the team’s chemistry. Not only for the outcome of the team’s wins but for the outcome of strong-minded players and coaches supporting each other.

“We have each other’s back in everything we do and it’s our duty as a family to protect each other,” Miller said.  If someone is having a bad day we pick them up. If someone is doing something positive we put that on display and promote it. Our Kulture is defined as a family that loves each other and that protects each other,” Miller said. “We have each other’s back in everything we do both on and off the field. The mindset is always focused on protecting the program before anything else.  100% of our team’s chemistry affects the outcome. Our players and coaches love each other and will go to war for each other.”
